About Backflow Preventor Testing:

A backflow preventor is a device that is designed to prevent the flow of water from going in an undesired direction. Backflow preventors are required by plumbing codes in the state of california to protect the main water supply from contaminants. There are four main types of backflow preventors:

  1. A Reduced Pressure Principal backflow preventor
  2. Double Check Valve backflow preventor
  3. Pressure Vacuum Breaker backflow preventor
  4. Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker backflow preventor

In order to ensure that the backflow preventor is truly doing its job, and only allowing flow in one direction, they are required by the state of California to be tested on an annual basis. Robertson Water Treatment holds a certificate from the American Backflow Prevention Association which is recognized in California as the standard certificate necessary to test backflow preventors.
